Why Young People Need to Hear Stories of Resilience and Possibility

Resilience Stories, Brighter Futures

Young people face many pressures.

Academic expectations, social relationships, uncertainty about the future and comparisons with others can influence how they see themselves.

Schools play an important role in helping students develop knowledge and confidence.

Inspirational speaking can contribute to that process by introducing different perspectives and personal experiences.

As a motivational speaker for schools in the UK, I share my experiences of growing up with the consequences of a serious childhood brain injury.

My story includes challenges with confidence, learning and feeling different from other people.

But it also includes discovery, personal growth and the decision to continue learning later in life.

Through my talks, I introduce students to neuroplasticity and explain how learning can influence the brain.

I encourage them to recognise that struggling with a skill does not automatically mean improvement is impossible.

At the same time, every learner has different needs, and determination should never replace appropriate educational support.

My aim is to entertain, educate and inform.

I want young people to understand that mistakes can be part of learning and that their current circumstances do not necessarily define every future opportunity.

The willingness to learn can remain valuable throughout life.
