Imagine if every young person understood that struggling with something new did not automatically mean they lacked ability.
Imagine if students learned that practice, feedback and effective learning strategies could help them improve.
Understanding neuroplasticity can support important conversations about learning and development.
As a motivational speaker for schools, I believe students benefit from hearing that abilities are not necessarily fixed.
However, this message should always be balanced with an understanding that learners have different needs, strengths and circumstances.
Not every student will progress at the same rate, and effort alone does not remove every barrier.
My personal experience of growing up with the consequences of a brain injury gives me a perspective on confidence, difference and perseverance.
Through storytelling and accessible explanations of brain science, I want to encourage students to remain curious and recognise the value of learning.
Schools can also help by creating environments where mistakes are treated constructively and appropriate support is available.
Education is about more than passing examinations.
It is about helping young people develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to keep learning throughout their lives.
