Life rarely follows the exact path we imagine.
Unexpected setbacks, disappointments and personal challenges can force us to reconsider what we believe is possible.
Resilience is not about pretending everything is fine or refusing to acknowledge difficult emotions.
It is about developing the capacity to respond, adapt and seek a way forward.
When people ask me how to build resilience, I encourage them to begin with three questions.
What can I control?
What can I learn from this experience?
What is one constructive action I can take next?
These questions do not remove the difficulty, but they can help shift our attention towards what is possible.
My own experience of living with the consequences of a childhood brain injury has taught me that progress is not always straightforward.
There have been setbacks, frustrations and periods of uncertainty.
But I have also discovered that learning, patience and persistence can open doors we may once have believed were closed.
Resilience is not something we demonstrate only during major life events. It can be developed through everyday experiences.
You do not have to control every circumstance to influence your next step.
